You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In a 1000m race, Jacqui finishes 100m ahead of Lisa and 190 m in front of Fran.
If Lisa and Fran continue to run at the same speed, how far in front of Fran will Lisa finish.
:
Let's assume J runs the race in 100 sec
then
1000%2F100 = 10 m/sec is J's speed
:
L ran 900 m in 100 sec, therefore
900%2F1000 = 9 m/sec is L's speed
and
F ran 810 m in 100 sec
810%2F100 = 8.1 m/sec is F's speed
:
Find how long it takes L to go 1000m at 9 m/sec
1000%2F9 = 111.1 sec
Find how far F travels in 111.1 sec
111.1 * 8.1 = 900 meters
therefore
L will be 100 meters ahead of F, when she finishes
