Question 836096: a man cycles to a village at 18km/hr and returns at 12km/hr.if he takes 6.25hrs for the double journey ,how far does he ride altogether?
Answer by LinnW(1048) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Set t = time to destination at 18 km per hour
so (6.25 - t) is the time to destination at 12 km per hour
d = 18t
d = 12(6.25 - t)
18t = 12(6.25 - t)
18t = 75 - 12t
add 12t to each side
30t = 75
t = 75/30
t = 25/10
t = 2.5
So since d = 18t , d = 18(2.5) , d = 45
So the round trip distance is 90 km.
Notice that 12(6.25 - 2.5) , 12( 3.75 ) = 45
