Barney left his house and headed due east at a speed of 50 miles per hour. Fred left at the same time and headed due west at a speed of 60 miles per hour. What would their combined travel distance be after 4 hours?
----
In 4 hours Barney went 4*50 = 200 miles East.
In 4 hour Fred went 4*60 = 240 miles West.
--------
After 4 hours they are 200 + 240 = 440 miles apart.
Cheers,
Stan H.
