First off that's one gigantic train... That's like a 10minute or more wait at the cross road. Anyway...
a train traveling at 60 mph enters a tunnel that is 5 miles long. the train is one mile long. how many minutes does it take for the whole train, from the front of the train entering to the end of the train leaving to pass through the tunnel?
There are 60 minutes in 1 hr
And it's going 60 miles in 1 hr
So logically it's going 1 mile every minute
So the tunnel is 5 miles long this means that the front of the train upon entering the tunnel up to the front of the train just reaching the exit side into the sun takes the train exactly 5 minutes. But we want the entire train to be out of the tunnel. So you have to add in the extra mile length of the train to the total distance to travel. It's 1 mile long and we already know 1 mile is equal to 1 minute so add 1 minute to 5 minutes and it takes the train 6 minutes to get its butt out of that tunnel.
