Question 818703: An airplane is traveling at 375mph on a heading of 160 degrees as measured clockwise from due north. If the wind is blowing 45mph in the direction 25 degrees as measured clockwise from due north, what is the actual speed and course of the airplane?
I think to do this problem, a parallelogram needs to be drawn. Then the diagonal, which would be R needs to be solved to figure out how fast it is going. Then I think the Law of sins would be used to solve for the course angle of the plane. However, every time I attempt to do this problem, I get the wrong answer. The provided answers say that the plane is going 345mph on a course of 155 degrees. If you could help me solve this problem, it would be much appreciated as I continue to prepare for my finals. Thanks!
