Question 818488: A baseball is thrown with a vertical velocity of 50 ft/s from an initial height of 6 ft. The height h in feet of the baseball can be modeled by h(t) = -16t^2 + 50t + 6, where t is the time in seconds since the ball was thrown. It takes the ball approximately _____ seconds to reach its maximum height.
what is the maximum height that the ball reaches?
The maximum height reached by the ball is _____ feet.

Answer by Edwin McCravy(20056)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
h(t) = -16t^2 + 50t + 6

Extreme values of a parabola occur at the vertex, so
the vertex formula:

The t-coordinate is found by the formula

 =  =  or 1.5625 seconds.

That's the answer you were asked to find.

The h-coordinate is found by substituting the t-value
into the formula

h(t) = -16t^2 + 50t + 6

h = -16 + 50 + 6

the answer is 59.125 feet. That's the highest point it reaches,
and it reaches that in 1.5625 seconds.
