You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(48 + 52)/2 = 50
s = d / t
d = s * t
---
d = 50 * 5 = 250 miles
---
because d is the round-trip distance, the car can drive a maximum of 125 miles before it must return, if it wants to make the round trip in 5 hours.

In 5 hours how far can a car go and return if the average speed going is 48 mph and the average speed returning is 52 mph.
-------
Going DATA:
time = x hrs ; rate = 48 mph ; distance = 48x miles
-------
Returning DATA:
time = 5-x hrs ; rate = 52 mph ; distance = 52(5-x) = 260-52x miles
----------
Equation:
distance going = distance returning
48x = 260-52x
100x = 260
x = 2.6 hrs
-----
Total distance = 48x+(260-52x) = 260-4x = 260-4*2.6 = 249.6 miles
-----
