Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Sandy rides her bike at a speed of 5 feet a second and Danny rides his bike at a speed of 10 feet a second. If Sandy gets a 90 second head start, how many seconds will Sandy ride her bike before Danny catches up to her?
------
Sandy DATA:
rate = 5 ft/sec ; time = x seconds ; distance = 5x ft
-------
Danny DATA:
rate = 10 ft/sec ; time = x-90 seconds ; distance = 10(x-90) ft
--------
Equation:
distance = distance
5x = 10x-900
5x = 900
x = 180 seconds = 3 minutes (Sandy time)
