Question 798638: Two trains leave the station at the same time, one heading east and the other west. The eastbound train travels 12 miles per hour slower than the westbound train. If the two trains are 450 miles apart after 3 hours, what is the rate of the eastbound train?
Answer by Finavon(81)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Constant speeds
In each hour 450/3 miles travelled = 150
12 miles for faster train leaves 138 for both
/2. 69mph for slower (east); (+12) 81 mph for faster (west)

Same by formula 450=3e + 3(e+12) = 6e + 36

East=69; west=81
