Question 796265: Joe and Romy start from the same place on bicycles and ride in opposite directions. Joe travels at the rate of 15 mph and Romy at rate of 10 mph. In how many hours will they be at 30 miles apart?
Answer by Cromlix(4381)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Joe travels at the rate of 15 mph and Romy at rate of 10 mph
Joe's rate = 15x
Romy's rate = 10x
15x + 10x = 30
25x = 30
x = 1.2 hours.
Joe's distance = 1.2 * 15 mph
= 18 miles
Romy's distance = 1.2 * 10 mph
= 12 miles
18 + 12 = 30 miles.
Hope this helps.
