Question 795536: An airplane makes a 180 mile trip with a headwind in 2 hours. It makes a return trip in the tailwind in 1.5 hours. What is the speed of the wind?
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance/Time = speed
180/2 = 90 mph (against the wind)
180/1.5 = 120 mph (with the wind)
90 + x = 120 - x
Collect like terms:
-30 = -2x
x = 15 mph
This is the speed of the wind.
Hope this helps.
