Question 793177: Kyle's pickup truck travels on an interstate highway at 65 mph for for 3 and 1/2 hours. How far did Kyle travel? do you multiply or divide
Answer by KMST(5328)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
65mph means 65 miles each hour.
Kyle travels 65 miles the first hour,
another 65 miles the second hour,
yet another 65 miles the third hour,
and during the next half an hour Kyle travels half or 65 miles, which is 32.5 miles.
You could add up 65+65+65+32.5=227.5,
or you could 65mph times 3.5 hours to get the same answer.
If you divided 65 by 3.5 you would get about 18.6, and it would not make sense that Kyle would only travel 18.6 miles in 3 and a half hours while driving 65 miles each hour.
