Question 792821: Two locomotives approach each other along parallel tracks. The fi rst train goes at 90km/h,
while the right has a speed of 50km/h, with respect to the ground. a) If they are initially 18.5 km apart, how long
will it be before the reach each other? Buzzes go from the first train to the second, turns around immediately, ies back to the first train, and turns around again. It goes on ying back and forth between the two trains until
they collide. b) If the
y's speed is 150km/h with respect to the ground, how far will it travel? (Research: How
many times the
y touches each train?)

Two locomotives approach each other along parallel tracks. The first train goes at 90km/h, while the other has a speed of 50km/h, with respect to the ground.
----------------------
a) If they are initially 18.5 km apart, how long will it be before they reach each other?
1st train distance: r*t = 90t km
2nd train distance: r*t = 50t km
---
Equation to find "t":
140t = 18.5 km
time = 0.1321 hrs = 7min 51sec
Buzzes go from the first train to the second, turns around immediately, flies back to the first train, and turns around again. It goes on back and forth between the two trains until they collide.
b) If Buzzy's speed is 150km/h with respect to the ground, how far will it travel?
distance = r*t = 150*0.1321 = 77.14 km
------------------------------------------

Stan H.
