Question 790724: Hi i need some help with this word problem.
The Adams family is going for a drive to see the fall colours. The total distance traveled is 110km. During the first part of the drive, they travel at 80km/h. For the end of the drive they are only able to drive at 60km/h because of the country roads. The trip takes one and three quarter hours in total. Find the distance traveled at each speed
I already have the two let statements and the two equations... which are:
Let Statements: Let "f" be the time in hours travelling at 80km/h and "s" be the time in hours travelling at 60km/h
The two equations: f+s= 7/4 and 80f+60s=110
So if you can help me solve those equations it would be greatly appreciated

Why did I choose -60 as a multiplier for the first step? Is there a different multiplier that would have solved the problem just as effectively?
