assuming uniform acceleration, the acceleration equals the change in velocity divided by the change in time

so (4 mi/sec)/8 sec =.5 mi/sec/sec (sometimes written as .5 mi/sec^2) in the forward direction

as an aside ... if the bike and the rider weigh 150 lbs together, it takes 12375 lb of thrust to accomplish this
