Two cars leave Baton Rouge at the same time and travel east on Interstate. One travels at a constant speed of 55mph and the other travels at a constant speed of 63 mph. In how many hours will the distance between them be 24 miles?

When they're 24 miles apart, the slower car has traveled 24 more miles less than the faster car
At that time, distance traveled by slower car, plus 24 miles, equals distance traveled by faster car
With T being the time taken for them to travel their respective distances, and be 24 miles apart, we create a DISTANCE equation, as follows:
55T + 24 = 63T
55T - 63T = - 24
- 8T = - 24
T, or time taken for them to be 24 miles apart = , or hours.
