Question 774719: A car travels at a speed of 65 mph and, starting at the same time and travelling in the same direction, the other car travels at 40 mph. How long will it take for the cars to be 90 miles apart? Can you please show the work also cause I'm really confused!
Answer by solver91311(24713)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

The difference in their speeds is 65 minus 40, so the faster car is opening the distance between the two cars at a rate of 25 miles per hour. Distance equals rate times time, so time is distance divided by rate.

Just do the arithmetic. If you need the time expressed in hours and minutes, just remember that one-tenth of an hour is 6 minutes.
