Question 771527: Two trains A and B with average rates of 50 mph and 60 mph, respectively, leave two train stations 770 miles away at 8:00 A.M. and move toward each other on parallel tracks. At what time will they meet?
Answer by ramkikk66(644)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Since the trains are travelling towards each other, the distance between them
is reduced by the SUM of their speeds. Every hour, the two trains will be (50+60)
i.e. 110 miles closer to each other.
Since the initial distance is 770 miles, the time taken to cover that and for the
two trains to meet would be given by time = distance / speed
= 770/110 = 7 hours.
Since they start at 8 a.m., they would meet 7 hours later at 3 p.m.
Hope you got it :)
