Question 766276: "At midnight, two planes are 500 miles apart flying towards each other. One plane is traveling 350 miles per hour, the other, 425 miles per hour. At what time will they pass each other?" I want to know how to solve this types of questions Thank You
Answer by ramkikk66(644)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Plane A travels at 350 mph, Plane B at 425 mph
Since they are travelling TOWARDS each other, their relative speed is (350+425)
= 775 mph.
That means, the distance between them is reducing at the rate of 775 mph.
Since they are 500 miles apart, time taken to cover the distance (and for them
to meet) is given by = speed / Relative velocity

= 500/775 hours = 0.6452 hours = 38.8 minute approximately

Hope you got it now :) Do let me know if it is not clear.
