Question 759698: Flying against the wind, a jet travels 6570 in 9 hours. Flying with the wind, the same jet travels 3570 in 3 hours. What is the rate of the jet in still air and what is the rate of the wind?

Flying against the wind, a jet travels 6570 in 9 hours. Flying with the wind, the same jet travels 3570 in 3 hours. What is the rate of the jet in still air and what is the rate of the wind?
-----------------------
Equations:
p - w = 6570/9 = 730
---
p + w = 3570/3 = 1190
---------------------------
Add and solve for "p":
2p = 1920
p = 960 (speed of the plane in still air)
------
Subtract and solve for "w":
2w = 460
w = 230 (speed of the wind)
