Question 759362: Ship 1 is traveling 24 mph and is 2 hours ahead of Ship 2. How long would it take ship 2 to catch up with Ship 1 if Ship 2 is going 32 mph and the distance between them is 6,911 miles?
I tried my best at this problem but not getting the right answer.
I had 24T=32(T-2)
24T=32-64
64/8=8T/8
T=8 hours and that is how far I got.
Thank you for your help.

ship 2 gains 8 miles on ship 1 every hour
ship 1 has 2 hour head start which means ship 1 covers 48 additional miles at 24 mph, so
time to catchup = (6911 + 48) / 8 = 870 hours
