Question 758514: If truck A travels north at 40km/h and truck B travels east at 60km/h, how far apart are the two trucks after 1 hour?
PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW TO DO THIS
Answer by Cromlix(4381) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Truck A travels North at 40 km/h
Truck B travels East at 60km/h
After an hour:
Truck A has travelled 40km
Truck B has travelled 60km
Consider a right angled triangle
40km is on the upright line
60km is on the base line at 90 degs
to Upright line.
Distance between trucks is given by
the hypotenuse that connects the ends
of both lines.
40^2 + 60^2 = Hypotenuse^2
1600 + 3600 = Hypotenuse^2
Hypotenuse^2 = 5200
Hypotenuse = square root of 5200
Hypotenuse = 72.1km
This is the distance between the
trucks.
Hope this helps.
