a man travels x km at 3 km/h but does the return journey at 2 km/h.
if the round trip took 5 hours find x
:
x/3 = time of the journey out
x/2 = time of the return
:
Write a time equation; time = dist/speed
out time + return time = 5 hrs
+ = 5
multiply by 6 to get rid of the denominators, resulting in:
2x + 3x = 6(5)
5x = 30
x = 30/5
x = 6 km
