Two trains leave Portland, Oregon, at the same time traveling in opposite directions. One train travels at 60 mph and the other at 80 mph. In how many hours will they be 910 miles apart?
------
Faster train DATA:
rate = 80 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = 80x miles
======
Slower Train DATA:
rate = 60 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = 60x miles
-----
Equation:
distance + distance = 910 miles
80x + 60x = 910
140x = 910
x = 6.5 hrs.
