Question 716245:
Two planes just took off from Reno, NV. The first plane is traveling 4 times as fast as the second plane. After traveling in the same direction for 4.5 hours, they are 1444.5 miles apart. What is the average speed of each plane?

Answer by checkley79(3341)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
1444.5=(4X-X)4.5
1444.5=3X*4.5
1444.5=13.5X
X=1444.5/13.5
X=107 MPH. FOR THE SLOWER PLANE.
4*107=428 MPH. FOR THE FASTER PLANE,
PROOF:
1444.5=(428-107)*4.5
1444.5=321*4.5
1444.5=1444.5
