Question 715431: please help solve this, thanks
A train left the station at 9AM traveling at 50mph. At 11AM, an airplane left the same place in the same direction at 175mph. At what time did the plane overtake the train?

Answer by checkley79(3341)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
D=RT
D=50T FOR THE TRAIN.
D=175(T-2) FOR THE PLANE.
50T=175(T-2)
50T=175T-350
50T-175T=-350
-125T=-350
T=-350/-125
T=2.8 HOURS ANS.
PROOF:
50*2.8=175(2.8-2)
140=175*.8
140=140
