Question 709011: I need help setting up this word problem into a equation.
Problem: Jen's motorboat travels at a speed of 10 mph in still water. Booth River flows at a speed of 4 mph. How long will it take Jen to travel 12 mi upstream? 12 mi downstream?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Jen's boat upstream is 10-4 mph. 6 miles per hour.
Time in hours to do 12 miles, 6*h=12, hours.
Jen's boat downstream is 10+4 mph. 14 miles per hour.
Time in hours to do 12 miles, 14*h=12, hours.
