Question 699503: A heavily loaded freight truck left California at 6:00 A.M. for Florida. It was going at 30 km an hour. One hour later a second truck was dispatched to catch the first truck. If it traveled at 50 km an hour, when will it overtake the first?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Truck I 30 km/h
Truck II 50 km/h
Truck I 06:00
Truck II 07:00
Difference in time= 01:00 => 1.00 hour
Truck I will have covered 30.00 miles before Truck II starts
catch up distance= 30 miles
catch up speed = 50 -30
catch up speed = 20 mph
Catchup time = catchup distance/catch up speed
=30/20
catch up time= 1.5
catch up time= 1.50 hours
The Truck II will catch up at 8:30 AM
