Question 69653: I need to solve this problem then explain why it is so.
Each hour, an airplane leaves New York for London. The trip across takes 6 hours. At the same times, airplanes leave London for New York. How many planes from London will a given airplane from New York meet on its trip to London?
NOTE: For this problem it will be assumed that planes, within reasonable safety considerations, follow similar paths in their trips and travel at the same constant speed.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

When the plane takes off it meets a plane coming in for landing. There must be another 6 planes already in the air(One of the six is just taking off at the same tiome as our plane).It will meet these as well. Each hour another plane will take off so in 6 hours this will be another 6 planes. The total planes met will be 13 with one of these being met as our plane takes off and the last one being met as it lands.
