Ching leaves San Francisco and travels toward Los Angeles at 50 mi/h. An hour later, Phil leaves Los Angeles and travels toward San Francisco at 60 mi/h. If the two cities are 380 miles apart, how many hours will it take for Ching to meet Phil?

Rate = 50 mph ; time = x hrs ; distance = rt= 50x miles
-------------
Phil DATA:
Rate = 60 mph ; time = x-1 hrs ; distance = rt = 60(x-1)=60x-60 miles
------------------
EQUATION:
distance + distance = 380 miles
50x + 60x-60 = 380
110x=440
x=4 hrs (hours need for Ching to meet Phil)

50X=60X-60
-10X=-60
X=-60/-10
X=6 HOURS FOR THEM TO MEET
PROOF
50*6=60(6-1)
300=60*5
300=300 SO THEY MEET AT THE 300 MILE MARK.
