Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
if im racing across the country and im driving 60 mph and my friend leaves a hour after me traveling at 75mph when will we catch up to eachother
----
Time and rate will be different, but distance will be the same.
-----
Your DATA:
rate = 60 mph ; time = x hrs. ; distance = rt = 60x miles
-----
Friend DATA:
rate = 75 mph ; time = x-1 hrs ; distance = 75(x-1) miles
------
Equation:
60x = 75(x-1)
60x = 75x - 75
-15x = -75
x = 5 hrs (time during which you drove)
