Question 668288: the first plane leaves L.A. traveling towards tahiti,6600 miles away,at 500 mph.at the same time a second plane leaves tahiti traveling towards L.A. How fast is the second plane going if they meet each other 6 hours later
Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the speed of second plane be x
they are travelling towards each other
add up their speeds
combined speed = (55+x) mi/h
Distance = 6600
Time = 6 hours

6600= 6(500+x)
6600=3000+6x
6600-3000=6x
3600=6x
x=600 mi/h
