Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two planes are 520 mi apart and are traveling toward each other. One plane is traveling 100 mph faster than the other plane. The planes meet in 0.5 h. Find the speed of each plane.
----
The closing speed is 2x+100 mph
---
rate = distance/time
-------------
2x+100 = 520/0.5
----
2x+100 = 1040
2x = 940
x = 470 mph (speed of the slower plane)
x+100 = 570 mph (apeed of the faster plane)
