A jazz group on tour has been drawing average crowds of 600 people. It is projected that for every $1 increase in the $13 ticket price, the average attendance will decrease by 75. At what ticket price will nightly receipts be $5,100?
**
let x=number of $1 increases in price
(600-75x)=new attendance
(13+x)=new price
attendance*price=revenue
(600-75x)(13+x)=5100
7800+600x-975x-75x^2=5100
7800-375x-75x^2=5100
75x^2+375x-2700=0
divide by 75
x^2+5x-36=0
(x+9)(x-4)=0
x=-9 (reject)
or
x=4
new ticket price=13+4=$17
