Question 647263: If two skier are 60 kilometers apart and head towards each other. They meet in 3 hours. If the second skier is 6 kilometers per hour faster the the other. Find the speed of each skier
Answer by htmentor(1343)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the speed of the first skier = s
Then the speed of the second skier = s + 6
The skiers are movning toward each other with their respective speeds of s and s + 6
This is equivalent to one skier standing still and the other moving toward them at their relative speed, 2s + 6
Since speed = distance/time, we have
60 km/3 h = 2s + 6
2s = 14
s = 7
So the 1st skier's speed is 7 km/h and the 2nd skier's speed is 13 km/h
