I am so confused. I tried dividing the miles driven by 28 but it didn't work. Pleas help! If possible, please provide a formula for how you found it. Thank you in advance

A car's gas tank can hold up to 17 gallons of gasoline;
when driving on the highway, it gets 28 miles per gallon.
If you've traveled 103 miles, how many gallons of gas have you used?"
:
That fact that the car holds 17 gal is irrelevant here
:
Divide the distance by the miles per gallon (which is what you did)
= 3.6786 gallons used to drive 103 miles
:
:
you can check this, find how many miles you can go on 3.6786 gallon
if you get 28 mpg
3.6786 * 28 = 103 miles
