Let s be the speed in miles per hour that Ed and Ann used. Let t be the time in hours that Ann traveled. For Ann we have st=6 so s=6/t. For Ed s(t+2)=24 so (6/t)(t+2)=24. Multiply both sides by t and get 6(t+2)=24t. 6t+12=24t. 12=18t. t=12/18. t=2/3 of an hour. t=40 minutes

Let Ed's time to ride 24 miles be T
Then Ann's time to travel 6 miles is: T - 2
Since they traveled at the same speed, then:
24(T - 2) = 6T ------ Cross-multiplying
24T - 48 = 6T
18T = 48
T, or time taken by Ed to travel 24 miles = , or hours, or
