Question 631093: Two train 'A' and 'B' r going opposite direction to station 'x' and 'y'. They started together from different station. After they meet together 'A' train arrived on station 'y' with in 4 hours 48 minutes and 'B' train arrived on station 'x' with in 3 hours 20 minutes. If 'A' train's speed is 45 km/hr then what is the speed of train 'B' ?

Two train 'A' and 'B' r going opposite direction to station 'x' and 'y'.
They started together from different station.
After they meet together 'A' train arrived on station 'y' within 4 hours 48
minutes and 'B' train arrived on station 'x' within 3 hours 20 minutes.
If 'A' train's speed is 45 km/hr then what is the speed of train 'B' ?
:
Change 4 hrs 48 min to hrs: 4 + 48/60 = 4.8 hrs
Change 3 hrs 20 min to hrs: 3 + 20/60 = 3.33 hrs
:
Let let s = Train B's speed
45 km/hr = Train A's speed
Let t = travel time of the trains to the point where they met
:
Distance from meeting point to y:
train A; 4.8*45 = 216 km
train B: t * s = ts km
therefore:
ts = 216 km
t =
:
Distance from x to meeting point
train A: t * 45 = 45t km
train B: 3.33*s = 3.33s
therefore
45t = 3.33s
t =
:
t=t, therefore
=
cross multiply
3.333s * s = 216 * 45
3.33s^2 = 9720
s^2 =
s^2 = 2916
s =
s = 54 km/hr is the speed of train B
:
:
See if that works out, we should get the same distance from each train
Distance from x to y, according to train B
3.33(54) + 216 = 396 km
Find t
t =
t = 4 hrs
Distance from x to y, according to train A
4(45) + 216 = 396 km
