Question 626507: One car travels 25 km/h faster than another. While one travels 300 km the other travels 450 km. find their speeds.
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
300 = r*t
300/r = t
t = 300/r
-------------------------------------------------------
450 = (r+25)*t
450 = (r+25)*(300/r)
450r = 300(r+25)
450r = 300r+7500
450r-300r = 7500
150r = 7500
r = 7500/150
r = 50
So the slower car is traveling 50 km/h while the faster car is traveling 50+25 = 75 km/h
Note: this is all done within 300/50 = 6 hours, but this fact is irrelevant.
