a car starts south at 40mph. one hour later a second car starts south form the same point. if the second car overtakes the first one in three hours, finds its speed.
Let x = speed of second car
then applying distance formula:
first car drives one hour longer than second car
"distance traveled by first car" = "distance traveled by second car"
(40)(3+1) = x(3)
(40)(4) = x(3)
160 = x(3)
160/3 = x
53.33 mph = x
