An airplane flying due North at 220 kph is blown by a 100 kph strong wind due 50 degrees North East. What is the resultant or actual velocity
**
The 100 kph wind has two components:
100cos50º=64.28 kph (due west)
100sin 50º=76.6 kph (due south)
..
resultant velocity has two legs:
220-76.6=143.4 kph (due north)
64.28 kph (due west)
resultant velocity=√[(143.4)^2+(64.28)^2]=157.15 kph
tanx=64.28/143.4=.448
x=24.13ºNW
resultant velocity: 157.15 kph flying 24.13 NW
