two cars are headed directly toward each other at rates of 40 mph and 60 mph. How many miles apart are they 2 min before impact
-------------
The speeds are added when going in opposite directions
40 + 60 = 100 mi/hr
2 min = 1/30 hour
d = r*t = 100 mi/hr*(1/30)hr
d = 10/3 miles
= 3.333... miles
