Answer by Nate(3500) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Pat's rate: b - 5
Bob's rate: b
Pat's time: 1.5t
Bob's time: t
Time * Rate = Distance
(b - 5)(1.5t) = 70
(b)(t) = 75
Use bob's formula:
t = 75/b
Substitute:
(b - 5)(1.5(75/b)) = 70
(b - 5)(112.5) = 70b
112.5b - 562.5 = 70b
42.5b = 562.5
About 13.24 (Bob's Rate)
Pat's Rate is about 8.24
~> Bob's time: 5.66
~> Pat's time: 8.5
