Question 605899: A boat traveled at 10 km\hour for one hour, then at 13 km\hour for two hours and finally at 11 km\hour for 1 hour. the average speed over the whole trip was 15 km\hour support your analysis with a calculation

10 km/hr for 1 hour is 10 km. 13 km/hr for 2 hours is 26 km. 11 km/hr for 1 hour is 11 km. 10 plus 26 plus 11 is 47 km total in 4 hours. 47 divided by 4 is NOT 15. The idea that the average speed over the whole trip was 15 km/hr is ridiculous both analytically and intuitively. How could the average be MORE than any of the component data points?
