Question 582597: On a straight inclined track, a ball rolling uphill takes 1.3 seconds to slow down from a velocity of 135 cm/s to a velocity of 65 cm/s. On the same track, how much time would it take a rolling ball with velocity 85 cm/s to reach a velocity of 0? Explain your reasoning. Do not use algebra.
I know that it took 1.3 sec to decrease it's velocity from 135 cm/s to 65 cm/s by 70 cm/s. If it took 1.3 sec for that, would the velocity decrease from 85 cm/s to 0 cm/s at about 2.5 sec, which I believe I'm incorrect on.
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the time is proportional to the change in velocity (constant acceleration)
1.3 sec for 70 cm/s means (85 * 1.3 sec / 70) for 85 cm/s
