Question 578746: If I travel 500 km in 5.5 hours at 2 speeds of 100 km/h and 80 kn/h, how far did I drive at each speed? how do I figure it out?
Answer by dfrazzetto(283)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Write it out as a system of 2 equations:
t1 = time driving 100 km/h
t2 = time driving 80 km/h
t1 + t2 = 5.5
100t1 + 80t2 = 500
Solved by pluggable solver: Linear System solver (using determinant)
Solve:

Any system of equations:

has solution

or

(x=3, y=2.5}

t1 = 3 hrs
t2 = 2.5 hrs
CHECK:
3 + 2.5 = 5.5 √
100(3) + 80(2.5) = 300 + 200 = 500 km √
