Question 577654: a plane can travel 1035 miles in the same amount of time that a train can travel 270 miles. the speed of the plane is 50 mph more than three times the speed of the train. what are the speeds of each?
Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
speed of train =x
speed of plane =3x+50
distance train = 270
distance plane = 1035
t=d/r and they are same for both
270/x = 1035/(3x+50)
270(3x+50)=1035x
810x+13500=1035x
13500= 1035x-810x
13500= 225x
x=13500/225
x= 60 mph speed of train
plug x in 3x+50 to get speed of plane
