Question 5687: Charles and Paul enter the Center Point - Comfort Hill Country Run. Charles runs at 8 mi/h and Paul at 6 mi/h. If they start together, how long before Charles is 1/4 mi ahead of Paul?
Answer by prince_abubu(198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Distance Paul travels = 6*T
Distance Paul is lagging behind = 0.25 miles
Distance Charles travels = 8*T
There are no time delays, so T will be the time they are running together.
Since Paul travelled less than Charles, we must add the 0.25 miles (that he was behind by) to his distance equal the distance traveled by Charles.
<---- Setup equation for the situation.
<--- 1/8 of an hour, or 7 minutes, 30 seconds.
