How many hours after the passenger train leaves will it pass the freight train.

Let t = travel time of the pass train
then
(t+2) = travel time of the freight

When the pass train catches the freight, they will have traveled the same distance
Write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
:
pass dist = freight dist
50t = 30(t+2)
50t = 30t + 60
50t - 30t = 60
20t = 60
t = 60/20
t = 3 hrs for the pass train to catch freight
