I know the answer is 4 hours but I do not know HOW. What is the formula?

Their rate of separation is the sum of their speeds:
 
50mph + 60mph = 110mph

time = 

time = 4 hours.

you can think of this as one car standing still and the other
driving away at the sum of their speeds
Let = time when they are mi apart



They will be 440 mi apart in 4 hrs
